Venue: Away

CCGS 5-189 (Noah Johnson 2-16, Jarvis Enman 1-21) def GGS 6-67 (Cutler 16, Pinelli 11) by 122 runs

Next week’s bye presents an opportunity for the Year 9 cricketers to reflect on the three games they have played this term. It will allow the players time to focus on how the mundane, basic principles are fundamental to the glorious game they are privileged to play each Friday afternoon. The basics being; clean fielding (gathering and catching), attacking the ball with speed in the outfield and returning it to the wicket keeper.

In this match we were comprehensively outplayed in all facets of the game; batting, bowling and fielding. However, there were a couple of positives. Firstly, Jarvis Enman – brother of Ollie, stepping up from Year 8s so we didn’t have to play with 10 men. Jarvis bowled some cleverly flighted off breaks and was rewarded with a wicket – a stumping completed by his elder brother. Secondly, Noah Johnson continued his form with the ball taking two wickets from three overs.

The chase never really gained any momentum as last week’s half-century maker, Ollie Enman was run out trying to get back for two. Adam Pinelli hung in gamely for 11 off 58 balls and Will Cutler batted for 45 minutes for his 16. Fraser Cleghorn, whose positivity never wears out, made his first runs for GGS and finished with 2 not out.

In two weeks’ we play Hale and you can bet the Year 9s will be ready to fight.
