Guildford Grammar School Boys Middle School A vs  Trinity College
On: Friday, 06 May 2022
Venue: at Home

The year 8’s came into this week's game against Trinity looking to put our disappointing first round result behind us. Some productive training sessions in the mid-week gave the boys confidence that we could resolve most of the issues that we suffered against Hale, as we narrowed our focus down to our structure without the ball, and the efficiency of our ball movement in the attacking third. The first half saw Guildford take the lead through Charlie Birney after some excellent pressing on the Trinity defense forced a turnover, where he was able to fire the ball past the Trinity goalkeeper to give GGS the lead after 15 minutes. After being competitive for 15 minutes, all our excellent work was quickly undone as we essentially handed Trinity 2 goals right before half time, leaving us 2-1 down at the break. Some honest words were shared at half time and the boys took to this well, starting the second half very strongly. Guildford began to ramp up the pressure on Trinity who suddenly looked out of the game, and who finally cracked thanks to another Charlie Birney goal with 5 minutes to go. Another defining moment of the game was Kobe Wallace’s double save on the goal line, which might go down as one of the season's best.

The final whistle drew a close to this highly entertaining game of football, with the final score at 2-2.
