Year 7 Rugby Report v Trinity 6 May 2022

The first fixture of our Hale/GGS combined team was always going to be a challenging one, but the boys rose to the occasion in great fashion, and were able to play, as much as they were able to, given limited preparation time, as a team. The Combined team, from now on called the Barbarians, were able to put some good pressure on the Trinity team early on, and despite Trinity opening the scoring in the 10th minute, play was fairly even for long periods and the Barbarians persistence paid off with Harry Hawksley (HS) brushing off several defenders to score in the corner (5-7). Four minutes later, however Trinity were able to cross the line and convert their second try to go 5 – 14 up with five minutes to play in the half. It was a good half for the Barbarians, who did a good job in keeping Trinity in check and not allowing their big runners to make too much ground.

The second half was a tough one for the Barbarians, with Trinity scoring five unanswered tries at fairly regular intervals during the half, effectively putting the Barbarians out of the game, in terms of the score. However, credit must go to the boys in the team for not giving up and staying in the contest all the way through, especially in the first half where they were able to hold Trinity. I am certain that with more games together as a group, the Barbarians will grow as a team and we look forward to our next fixture together.
